Gdansk

This Saturday my host family took Olivia and I to Gdansk, we visited the surrounding towns Gdynia and Sopot as well.
Our first stop was in Gdynia, we went to Science Centre EXPERYMENT,  a fun hands on museum where we were able to play with different experiments. My favorites were the bed of nails, a couple of the waters ones, and the best was mind ball. In this you and a friend sit opposite ends of a special table and you both have special head bands that pick up on your brain activity. The goal is to empty your mind, whoever can clear their head faster will move a ball from the center of the table into the goal at the other side. It's a little tricky to explain, hopefully the picture helps :)

Our next stop was in Sopot, we were very lucky to have such great weather in this cute town. Walking through the streets of houses to get to the town center was beautiful, the houses looked like they were made for tea parties! They all had beautiful details in lovely pastel colors. The town center was beautiful too, we got to walk out on the pier/boardwalk and soak in the sun. It was a great spot and the water was an amazing shade of blue. I was not ready to jump in though, the water was filled with jellyfish and I think it was pretty chilly too!

Before we moved on to the next city we walked around the town center and explored some shops. Of course we got ice cream ('Lody' in Polish) There were also lots of vendors selling amber jewelry, I'm excited to pick some out throughout the year to bring home with me next year.
As always I'm keeping my eyes on the prize!

Our last stop that day was my favorite. We went to the old town in Gdansk and visited a couple different things. We went to St. Mary's Church and climbed the 409 stairs to the top. The view was incredible, you could see the whole city!

It is very cool to see both the new and older buildings from the city, I think these pictures give you a good view of that.

After climbing back down all those stairs(!) we walked into the town square. All the buildings here were so unique, no two are the same. There were people doing street art, singing and more vendors selling all kinds of things. I tried to capture the town but I don't think the pictures really do it justice.

It was a fantastic day full of sweet views, fun experiments, and to wrap it up some yummy waffles (Gofry in Polish)!

Our timing was great too, we got to the car just as it was starting to rain!

I would like to apologize for the delay of this post! This week has been a little busier, I was able to do somethings after school with Olivia and Kuba and some new people too :)

This weekend will be full of fun things that I will be back to share soon!

  2. The photos really do tell an amazing story. Those pics are great.
'Lody' and 'Gofry' look amazing in any language.
The mind emptying game photo is super-funny! It looks like most students do, at the end of a tough day at school. Actually,...It looks like many parents at the start of the day :)
Hey, no pressure to post to this blog. When ever you get a chance is a good time.

An extra post!

Saturday I spent the day with my host mom. We brought Mika (my host puppy) to the vet, went to the grocery store, and the car wash! It wasn't an overly exciting morning but it was fun. It was also a good challenge for my host mom and I, she doesn't speak much English and I don't speak much polish! When we got back from the store I made chocolate chip cookies while Jola started making Pierogis!! I was very excited to finally try them. We had both boiled and fried, some with cheese and some with fruit. The fried ones were my favorite and I liked the fruit filled ones best.  That afternoon we shuffled around some things in the garage and found a bike that (mostly) fit me. We went on a 10k bike ride! I was really wishing I had brought my phone so I could've captured it, and shared with you. It was so beautiful out, I could smell the Fall. I know that's cheesy but it's one of my favorite times of the year. The air has a different feel that I really love. Ear

Day 1

Two Mondays' ago, after double and triple checking that I had everything, I said goodbye to my sweet puppy and loaded all my bags into the car. We picked up cider doughnuts from Cold Hollow Cider Mill and drove up to Montreal. My parents took me out to Moe's and we got famous smoked meat sandwiches! I was hoping to post this in the airport but I didn't get a chance. I flew through Amsterdam airport and got to (briefly) meet one of my host brothers! Dominik flew out of Warsaw airport Tuesday morning so our flights coincidentally lined up.  I only had two hours left till I got to Warsaw. When I landed I easily found my host family, they had made a big sign with my name on it!  From Warsaw it was a three hour drive back to  Bartąg, I was only at my host family's house for one night. Wednesday morning I got on train for my nine day language camp. I took the train to Bydgoszcz with another exchange student  who  is staying in Olsztyn. This camp included

Party In Poland! And more!

Friday night I went to my first polish party! Jan brought Olivia and I to his friends 18th birthday. I was a little nervous at first. I didn't know anyone at the party and I wasn't sure what it would be like but people were very friendly! People seemed more interested than they normally are at school, it was refreshing to meet so many new people. The beginning of the night was a little awkward but then more people came and we started dancing! It was so hear some new polish music (!!) and see everyones dance moves. I think people are a lot less shy about dancing here. In the states kinds just kind of sway awkwardly, here there is a lot more movement!  This past weekend I was able to go with Olivia and her host parents to Lidzbark Warminski. Our first stop was the castle. If I'm being honest I wasn't as excited about seeing the castle, the castles here are very similar, and while amazing, we usually just take a tour of the main points with a guide. When we arrived I
